Default Hearts of the North - the next Guild Wars Beyond chapter

Guru Heart of the North Interview

This represents a stage in moving the storyline from Guild Wars to Guild Wars 2, has the development/lore team put any kind of timelines together, and how many more events are we likely to see before Guild Wars 2?
We have internal timelines for the major events that happen between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 that serve as a guideline for some of the topics that we’d like to hit upon. I’ll use Cantha: Winds of Change as an example of how this process works. I know that there are certain things that will have happened of importance for GW2 that I think would make for a compelling experience to players. I talk with our keepers of the lore, Jeff Grubb and Ree Soesbee, and pitch them what I’d like to do – this is sort of a sanity pass, with the hope being that if I propose something like “A History of Guild Wars: The Musical,” it will immediately and understandably be shot down.

Once I’ve got the green light, I go back and start filling out the story in greater detail – what is the overall plot arc, who are the important characters, and how is this all going to play out? When that’s done, we reconvene to talk it over again, to refine and finalize it. There can be a fair amount of back and forth, but it’s all part of the iterative design process that we follow here at ArenaNet, and I feel like we’ve come away with something really strong because of it.

As for how many of these major events will occur before Guild Wars 2 – there’s a lot of story that we can tell in the time that we have, even within the limitation of things that would reasonably happen within the player’s lifetime. That isn’t to say we aren’t also looking at ways to let players experience some things that happen beyond their time, as well.

What forces led you to bring back Thackeray and Gwen, obviously it's a rich world with many characters to choose from, why these two?
Keiran has been missing for quite some time (at least real world time) after the events of the War in Kryta. However, players who have been following Guild Wars 2 are probably already familiar with Logan Thackeray, one of our iconic characters, which presents something of a conundrum – how does he end up being if we never explain the rest of Keiran’s tale? This was a story that I didn’t want to leave hanging before we moved on to explore other parts of the world, and what has been happening within them. There’s a lot of story still to be told – not just for existing characters, but for a host of new faces as well.

Will there be any kind of commemorative token or title associated with participating in this quest line?
There will be a new Hero unlocked at the end of the content – when completing story arcs like this, I’d like to try and make sure we’re giving the players a tangible reward as opposed to something that is strictly cosmetic!

Can you talk more about the actual wedding? What will that be like from a player’s perspective, is this a one-time event, or is it something scripted into the storyline?
The wedding will be playing out as part of the story line – I didn’t want to make something like this as a one-time event, that would be unfair to players who come in later on. It’s a culmination to a pretty large storyline, so I wouldn’t want anyone to miss out. The wedding itself is going to be something of a breather after all of the action of the Keiran missions. It was something I really felt that the content needed – a chance for something to happen that was just simple and positive – no death, destruction, war, or strife. After coming off a major storyline of conflict, we needed a moment of peace. I feel like if we let ourselves get caught up in telling nothing but increasingly epic conflicts, the player can begin to lose sight of why they’re even fighting at all. It’s the simple moments that let you know that the world is something that’s still worth caring about.

Default Hearts of the North - the next Guild Wars Beyond chapter

Love is in the air, folks! The next chapter of the Guild Wars Beyond campaign brings us Hearts of the North, a love-wrought event in which players help reunite the legendary heroes Gwen and Keiran Thackeray and allows you to play Keiran himself! Players will gain access to a series of missions, quests and in-game content such as preparing for the wedding, participating in the ceremony and even be able to dress in one of the five new wedding outfits.
As a special treat for Guild Wars fans, the Hearts of the North lore focuses on the union of Lt. Keiran Thackeray, a figure familiar to War in Kryta players, and Gwen, a beautiful but bitter woman that players first met at the very start of the original Guild Wars. Logan Thackeray, an iconic character in the upcoming release of Guild Wars 2 and the forthcoming Guild Wars novel Edge of Destiny, is the descendant of these two legendary heroes. As part of Hearts of the North, Guild Wars players will once again take part in history, as the wedding of Gwen and Keiran have important ramifications on the world of Guild Wars 2.

In Hearts of the North, players will experience Guild Wars history through exciting in-game quests, a website that enhances the storyline and have the opportunity to don elegant wedding costumes such as formal gowns and dapper tuxedos. But before the wedding can take place, players will search for clues to Keiran?s whereabouts for a heartsick Gwen, hunt down evil as Keiran Thackeray himself and help a norn wedding planner arrange the festivities.

Only those players who have finished Guild Wars: Eye of the North and the War in Kryta can access Hearts of the North. Once players have participated in Keiran?s safe return, they can attend the wedding and associated festivities.

In the months ahead, Guild Wars Beyond will continue to establish the foundation of Guild Wars 2 via the current Guild Wars live game. For more information on Guild Wars and the Hearts of the North, please visit www.guildwars.com.

QFT. Now, how do we start this thing? The link for more information just leads to the WiK page that hasn't been updated since July.

Nooo, kicked from HoH...

So many files, which means new textures. We are going to see new costumes soon. Nothing very interesting for me, but at least PvE players should be happy.

Next step - PvP/HA love please.

I've been a good little GW fan up until now but sorry guys no more DLC money unless it's something along the lines of a second BMP. Costumes were a nifty idea but if it's going to be an 'every time something canon related happens' type deal, no thanks.

Getting money from the game ANet designed without forcing players to buy stuff just in order to stay on par with the others + adding SOME new in-game stuff + creating a lore bridge between GW1 and GW2.
Nothing wrong with it, actually.

Aww common people, the content is and remains free, if you like the costumes, buy them, if not just enjoy the free content update.
Guess Ill pass on this round of costumes too, WiK & Halloween were more to my liking, but I am sure there are those who enjoy these costumes way more than those of the past. Especially the RP crowed.

Im not arsed about the staying on par with others, just the actual quality of it all. It's a right shock going from addons such as factions, nightfall and ending up with this; selling a mesmer set for a third of the previous add on price. It just smacks of half arsedness. And yes I like saying arse a lot.

He just joined my party outside of Kryta.

Man, that was easy.

So much for QA.

OMG, this is so cool.

I missed the beginning of the War in Kryta event, so it was less fun playing catch up.

With this, I hope to be right on top of the events....

so, uh, where do I start?
